Traffic Disrupted on Bramhapuri–Wadsa Highway
Chandrapur: For the past two years, the British-era bridge on the Bhooty Nalla along the Bramhapuri–Wadsa highway has been in a dilapidated condition. Construction of a new bridge has been progressing at a slow pace. To facilitate traffic movement, a temporary earthen causeway (rapata) was built beside the nalla as an alternate route.
However, due to continuous heavy rains over the last two days, the causeway on the Bramhapuri–Desaiganj highway has been washed away, leading to a complete halt in heavy vehicular traffic. Two-wheeler riders have been using narrow alternative routes, but since these have small bridges, many are risking their lives while commuting. Authorities have warned that such risky movement could lead to untoward incidents.
With rains showing no signs of stopping, water flow is expected to rise further, possibly resulting in the complete closure of the route again. Even though officials have strictly appealed to citizens not to cross the flooded bridge, some people are still risking their lives by ignoring safety advisories.
