Nagpur: Continuous heavy rainfall over the past four days has created flood-like conditions in western Vidarbha’s Akola, Buldhana, Washim, and Yavatmal districts, as well as in eastern Vidarbha’s Chandrapur and Gadchiroli. More than two lakh hectares of farmland have gone under water, while over 600 houses have collapsed, leaving daily life severely disrupted.

Akola Hit Hard –

On August 17 and 18, six talukas in Akola district witnessed widespread damage: 389 houses collapsed, crops spread across 59,289 hectares were destroyed, and 26 cattle perished. Water was released from Katepurna, Morna, and Nirguna dams. A tragic wall collapse claimed the life of a three-year-old girl.

Buldhana Opens All Gates of Khadakpurna Project –

On Monday, heavy rainfall lashed Chikhli, Mehkar, and Sindkhed Raja talukas. For the first time this year, all 19 gates of the Khadakpurna project were opened, along with nine gates of the Pentakli project. Overflowing streams forced several roads to shut, while schools in Chikhli taluka were declared closed for two days.

Yavatmal District Faces Severe Flooding –

Since Saturday, heavy rainfall has severely affected Umarkhed, Mahagaon, and Pusad talukas. Umarkhed has been cut off, while Pulshi and Sangam Chincholi villages face critical flood conditions. Two more gates of the Isapur dam have been opened, and road connectivity on the Kharbi–Kinwat route has been completely disrupted.

Massive Agricultural Losses –

Between August 16 and 18, floods killed 15 cattle, damaged 3,365 houses, and destroyed crops spread across 80,723 hectares. Mahagaon, Ghatanji, Ani, Zhari, and Pusad talukas have been heavily impacted.

Disaster Management on Alert –

Relief and rescue operations have been launched by the administration. Officials are monitoring dam water levels closely, while rescue teams remain on standby. Authorities have urged citizens to remain cautious and strictly follow safety advisories.
