Brahmapuri (Chandrapur District): An incident from Soundari village in Bramhapuri Taluka has triggered outrage in the entire area. A local man has been accused of repeatedly sexually assaulting a minor schoolgirl who is mentally challenged. The accused would take advantage of darkness or power cuts to commit the assault. Due to her mental state, the girl never told anyone about the abuse. The truth only came out when her schoolteacher earned her trust and questioned her. (Bramhapuri News)
After learning about the matter, the police acted promptly and arrested the accused, identified as Naresh alias Narendra Thombre (43). Initially, the victim’s family, afraid of repercussions, avoided filing a complaint. However, the teacher’s courageous actions brought the case to light.
According to reports, the girl studies in a school in Wadsa. The teacher noticed that she would often become frightened and mumble incoherently whenever there was a power outage or after nightfall. Concerned about this change in behavior, the teacher asked her in confidence, and the girl revealed that she had been assaulted.
The accused, who works as a daily wage laborer, allegedly threatened to kill the girl and would take her to the Zilla Parishad school toilet to assault her. After discovering this, the teacher immediately contacted the girl’s parents and urged them to file a complaint with the police. Out of fear due to the accused’s threats, the family refused. The teacher then took the initiative herself and lodged the complaint at Brahmapuri Police Station.
Based on the teacher’s report, the police registered a case against Naresh Thombre under Sections 64(2)(M), 64(2)(M) K, and 65(1) V.N.S. of the Indian Penal Code, provisions of the POCSO Act, and Section 92(1) of the Rights of Persons with Disabilities Act, 2016. The accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to police custody until Sunday, the 17th.
The incident has sparked widespread anger in the locality, and the teacher’s bold and fearless stand is being widely praised.
